A native Shreveporter is reaching the final days in the countdown to his second appearance on the U.S. Olympic Weightlifting team. Kendrick Harris, a Byrd High School graduate, is the only male weightlifter on the team. In 2008, he placed eighth at the games in Bejing, shattering two world records in the process.
Farris is still training five days a week at LSU-Shreveport, the same gym where he took up the sport at 11 years old. "I feel like I've gotten a lot stronger, so I'm excited to just, you know, have the opportunity to go back and hopefully be able to attempt that world record," he said.
The 2012 Summer Olympics kicks off in London on July 27.
